Although Windows provides some information about the Internet traffic, finding these details may be difficult, especially for inexperienced users. Real Network Monitor provides you with the information you need about any uploads or downloads on your network. It displays the information on a single window and it provides a few useful tools as well.

Real Network Monitor is free and open source and it can be installed in no time. It works on Windows 2000 and all later editions and it doesn't have any special requirements. The application comes in a small package, so it should take only a few seconds to download it.

The application provides various statistics, for local area connections, loopback pseudo-interfaces and others, which can be selected in a drop menu. Received interface IPs are displayed in a list, along with short descriptions and their corresponding time frames. You can also find a series of statistics regarding downloads and uploads, on the same interface, including current and maximum speeds or the amount of downloaded or uploaded data.

Real Network Monitor is not limited to displaying traffic statistics on a compact window. It comes with a few utilities for looking up interfaces, finding gateways, blocking websites and more. A traffic database is available as well, in which you can find the total figures for monthly traffic uploads and downloads.

The current downloading and uploading speeds can be displayed on a small box, just like a desktop gadget. This means that you don't have to bring up the main interface each time you wish to see this information. A similar tool can be displayed on the task bar as well.

Pros

The application provides useful Internet traffic statistics. Additionally, it allows you to block websites, look up interfaces and find gateways. Real Network Monitor is lightweight, easy to use and it is absolutely free.

Cons

There are no serious issues to speak of. Real time statistics about your Internet traffic and a better control over your network is what you can expect when using Real Network Monitor.
